Why the Intel Management Engine scares me so much.
Why the intel management engine makes me afraid for the future of compute and architecture in general.
First off before i start talking about this subject i just want to tell you im not very experienced on it. CPU that also stands for Central Processing Unit is probably the most recognized part in a computer from 1953 when it was first invented to now in 2026. It is vital that it stays private because a system physically cant run without it since your reading this your CPU currently has a backdoor whether your on a PC or a phone and if you think you can do something about it you cant. It sucks but dont worry these corporations dont care about you unless you are apart of a nation state attack. The reason why these corporations such as Intel and AMD implement these systems is so goverments can go after high value targets or cyber terrorists. But tin foil hats feel like this world is totalitarian and after them so nerds made a method to rip that part out of the CPU its called libreboot there are some other iterations but libreboot is the most recognized. But like i said before this its highly unlikely you can do this method because the best way to do it is with a Thinkpad T400. I am not going to explain the process here but if you have a spare one laying around you can install libreboot on it if you have the skills i will link it below.
